Besuquear (v.): to kiss, to cover with kisses, to smother with kisses, to “neck” or make out.

This blog aims to explore the American foreign experience in Buenos Aires, and in particular cross-cultural relationships, dating, hook-ups, flirtation, and love. From the messy world of shared stereotypes – the easy gringa, the rich American, the hysterical Argentina, the chamuyero porteño – to the personal experiences of myself and others, I want to share these ideas and stories, in particular amongst the growing expat community and those who interact with them.

I am a 23 year old student, originally from Chicago, who spent a year and a half living in Buenos Aires – Balvanera, Congreso, Almagro, and Nuñez – while studying abroad. Now I am finishing school in Massachusetts and living between the two worlds, in a way, as I plan my move back to Argentina after graduation. For me Buenos Aires is a place that gets under your skin, and into your heart…despite its ugly side, I dream about it all the time, because there’s something about it I have fallen in love with.

  1. Hi!
I really enjoyed reading your blog posts! I’m a 28-year old from St. Louis, and I came to Buenos Aires because I received a grant to study Paraguayan migration to Buenos Aires (I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay from 2007-2009), but along the way I fell in loooooove with an Argentinian boy, so we are staying until we can get back into the U.S. legally in time for me to go to grad school next fall. Anyway, since I stayed past my grant, I got abandoned by all of my grant friends, and since it’s summer, I don’t have any classes, and, oh yeah, I am also looking for a job since I don’t have an income. So I have tons of free time and not much to do! I would love to meet up with you for coffee sometime, if you’re down! We could take about international relationships, Paraguayans in Buenos Aires, culture, the meaning of life, anything!
Take care! Hope to here from you soon!
